Saying ‘No’ to What Drains You—So You Can Say ‘Yes’ to Freedom” 🚫✅
Welcome to Wealth Wisdom Wednesdays Cadre. This is your host, Alex Muir, helping you flex your mind, body and soul for the Mindset brand. Apologies for not making my previous live for last Sunday.
This Wealth Wisdom Wednesday is about saying no to what drains you so you can say yes to freedom. We want to reserve space so everyone has the opportunity to share their story. Again, thank you for tuning into Wealth Wisdom Wednesdays.
This week has been particularly agitating for me at work. There's some stuff going on that's been a bit mentally challenging. So sometimes we got to release that negative energy. The way I'm doing that tonight is literally the second this live finishes, I'm going to shoot hoops because I love to.
This week is tough for me mentally and spiritually. I am on a 14 day meditation streak despite all the distraction. Part of giving yourself freedom is giving yourself grace when things don't go as planned. Be okay with adapting on the fly.
Going back to saying no to what drains us, but saying yes to what gives us free. For me, today, it's extra exercise. If you're feeling agitated or you need a little mental reset, sometimes all you need to do is move a little bit.
Cadre: It's all about pleasure. When we make things fun, they're pleasurable. Find ways to build in fun into your schedule when things are more challenging. Pickleball is a lot of fun.
Alex is the host of the Mindset Mindset podcast. He thanks everyone for tuning in. He's going to go and shoot hoops. Have a great evening, everyone.
And welcome to Wealth Wisdom Wednesdays Cadre. This is your host, Alex Muir, helping you flex your mind, body and soul for the Mindset brand. And want to mention again, apologies for not making my previous live for last Sunday. I was having some technical difficulties and I totally blanked because I was in the midst of writing an exam in the morning. And then by the time a lot the evening came around to do the live, I blanked and I was trying to get back into the app and it wouldn't let me back into the app.
Dr. Leah, Nikki, welcome to the live. Thanks for tuning in. So this Wealth Wisdom Wednesday is about saying no to what drains you so you can say yes to freedom. Because again, July is all about freedom. Nikki. Hi. How you doing? So it's kind of similar to some other lives I've done on Wealth Wisdom Wednesdays about talking about boundaries. Right. Saying yes to what we want to say yes to and saying no to what drains us. Right. It's super important. Same time to me before. Yep. Yeah, I know. Oh, God, I felt so bad.
Yeah. I went live blanked on my topic and then. Yeah. And I couldn't get back in. So normally I would try and get back in there. But again, as a contributor, we all got to be conscious of who's coming up after us because a lot of people want to. They want us. They want to show their story, they want to showcase their story to the Cadre sphere, to the community. Right. And super important for that, everyone shares their story. Right. We want to reserve space so everyone has the opportunity to share their story.
So again, thank you for tuning into Wealth Wisdom Wednesdays. If you wonder what these are, these are my blue light blocking glasses. Because I am on the computer all day. I work anyway, so any way that I can alleviate some of the blue light or eye strain, I like to do that. So. But going back to our topic, saying no to what drains us so we can say yes to it enlightens us, feeds our energy, gives us more energy. I'm gonna be. And I'm gonna be honest with you, I. This week, you did perfectly because we just can't be perfect.
Yep, that's exactly right. Nikki, I'm gonna. I'll be honest with you, Cadre. This week has been particularly agitating for me at work and stuff. There's some stuff going on that's been a bit mentally challenging, and I'm someone that's really good at holding my composure, but to a point, and then sometimes some things. So this week is just one of those weeks where things have occurred. There's some stuff going on that I'm trying to navigate and it's been a little bit more challenging. So sometimes we got to release that negative energy.
Right. And the way I'm doing that tonight is literally the second this live finishes, I'm going to shoot hoops because I love to. I find for myself when I'm going through something mental. Right. Sometimes it's reading, sometimes it's meditation, but sometimes I need the third thing, which I do daily anyway, is my exercise. Yeah, Nikki. Yeah. Hey, let me know in the chat, everyone, how's your week going? What's going on with you? How are you feeling? I know, I love how Rick Cram always talks about resilience, right.
Figuring out how to be more resilient, how to endure pain. Maybe you've been going through pain. Yeah. Walking is amazing, especially when it's with your family, right? Bonding time with your spouse, your partner, your kids or your pet. Me and my wife always like to take our dog. Like the best part about having a pet or a dog especially, so, you know, you got to walk them. You know, they need their exercise. So it's a, it's a, it's a win, win. We get our bonding time, me and my wife, and then all three of us get our bonding time with the dog.
So. And we're all, all three of us are getting exercise. So it's super, super good. Right? When we're having tougher weeks, when we're having tougher moments. I just want to be straight up with you Cadre. Like I. This week is tough for me. This week is tough for me mentally and spiritually. I've been a bit more distracted in my meditations. I've been trying to stay focused. I am on a 14 day meditation streak despite all the distraction. But I was listening to Luke's live. Luke Winlet's live. Earlier he did a.
Because he normally does his Monday motivation. He was speaking about that, how some. His year, how our days can get derailed sometimes, right? So it just didn't work. Sometimes, you know, you mess up and, you know, you're, you're like, no, I want, I want to do my live at X time at X day like I normally do. And life gets in the way sometimes. So you got to give yourself grace. And I love how we're talking about freedom in the month of July because we. Because part of giving yourself freedom is giving yourself grace when things don't go as planned because life doesn't care about our plan.
Sometimes life Is like, no. Yeah, I know you had this scheduled two weeks in advance, a month in advance, and sometimes it all can all go to crap sometimes, right? No matter how much. No matter how much we prepare in a mutter, how far advanced we do, we are have prepared something, sometimes it just doesn't work. So be okay with having to adapt on the fly. Be okay with. Yeah, Agility, adaptability. And this is something since COVID happened, I've been learning how to get better at because I. I'm someone that has struggled in the past with uncertainty, where things are just not going as planned.
Because I'm very regimented and routine, and I like my routine because routine gives us certainty. It anchors us. It helps us create our own certainty, our own form of preparation for. For the tasks at hand or our process. But sometimes that needs refinement, sometimes that needs. Yeah, extra. Extra think tank time or making. Making adaptations. Right? Because things change. So just be okay with switching things up when things aren't going as planned, because they're not always gonna go as planned.
It's okay. So going back to saying no to what drains us, but saying yes to what gives us free, because saying yes to it gives us freedom. For me, today, it's extra exercise. So yesterday I did a kettlebell workout. Talk about an agitating week, right? So yesterday I did a kettlebell workout. And again, this is like minute for. For most, but for me, it was annoying. I did a kettlebell workout. 25 minute kettlebell workout. And I normally do my adjustable. Adjustable dumbbells, right? And they go up, they go 10 to 90 pounds.
But the one adjustable dumbbell has been loosening over time, and it's just from, again, wear and tear. It's being, you know, I bought them in 2021. It's now 2025, so they're not that old. They're, you know, I bought them new. But the one dumbbell, it's been loosening up, and I. And I couldn't find a. I couldn't find a screwdriver, whatever you call it. I'm not very good with tools, but I couldn't find like a. Like a nut or whatever that could, like, could like, get it, like, turn it back, like, tighten it up, all that kind of stuff.
So I was trying to figure that out, and I couldn't figure it out. I spent like 15 minutes trying to figure it out, and I'm like, hey, this is cutting into my workout time. Forget it. I'm gonna have to do it another time. So ditched that. Still got the Workout done. Despite being mega agitated and. Cause I was thinking about the stuff that's been happening at work this week. But the best thing that we can do when we're getting agitated, we're kind of losing our composure because again, it's all about, right, the mind, right?
And like resetting the mind and a quick state change. And when we want a quick state change, a lot of times the best way to do that, Movement, movement, movement, movement. It's gonna reset this. And it's going to reset this. Because when this is out of sync, this will be out of sync too. When. What I'm saying is when our brain or our mind's out of sync, our body will be able to sync. So we'll be more tight. Our muscles will be like, no, when we're stressed, our body stress and then we start to go, like, just get really tight.
Right. When we're up, tight up here, we're uptight in here too. So always keep that in mind. Like when you're having tougher weeks mentally, sometimes all we need to do is a quick 15, heck, even 10 to 15 minute exercise. Reset. When I say exercise, it can be as simple as going for a walk. Like Nikki said, going for a nice walk, 10 to 15 minutes. Of course, when I say 10 to 15 minutes, most people are gonna do more than that because like, oh, I can do, I can do that. No, no, no problem. I'll probably do 20 or 25 minutes or 30 minutes, right?
Even better. But just to get out, just outside, just, you know, sun on your face, the cool breeze, wherever you are, whether it's sunny or cloud or even overcast, you're still gonna feel 10 times better than sitting in with your thoughts and thinking about trying to. You can't. We can't think our way out of thinking. If we got something that's like deep on our mind and bothering us. Can't think your way of thinking, but we can move our way out of discomfort because we're changing that state from discomfort to pleasure.
Right? Exercise can be a very pleasurable thing, and it can help us reset very quickly, more quickly than we think. So keep that in mind. If you're feeling agitated or you need a little mental reset, sometimes all you need to do is move a little bit. And then if you've moved a little bit and then you're still feeling that way, then maybe you got to go deeper, then maybe to distract. A healthy. Another healthy distraction and a way to refocus is meditation or even some reading. Me and my wife have Been loving our evening reading sessions that we've been doing in just before bed.
So some. Some nights again, I'm really feeling like I need. We need that this week. So I'm gonna. Me and my wife have already talked about it. We're gonna do. Excuse me. I'm like, it's been. It's been a week. It's been a week. I'm like, it's been a week, babe. So I'm like, let's either have a cup of tea or have a glass of wine. Let's read our book. Let's do some facials. Let's, you know, get glow up, get that, get that skin care. Looking good. So. Because when you. When we, when we look good, we feel good.
I just always feel amazing when I do any kind of skin care, anything like that. It's just like you're just trying to feel like revitalized. Right? Do it a reset mentally and physically. Right. Plus do an exercise. So when we do these little things, they add up to the big things. And when we say yes to the things that we want to say yes to, it'll allow us and enable us to say. Or when we say no to the things that drain us, it allows say yes to the things that revitalize us, that re. Energize us. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. No, facials are definitely. Whoa. Definitely part of this, Nikki. It's super important. So whatever, you know, it's all about pleasure. It's all about having fun. And when we make things fun, they're pleasurable. We're much more likely to navigate. Like Rick Cram says, become more resilient, become more agile, become more adaptable. We can't build those skills if we're not also building in pleasure. Fun, enjoyment, fulfillment, passion. What lights you up, Cadre? What makes you feel happy?
What's fun for you? For me, another thing that me and my wife may get into. I don't know if it's big in the US it probably is too. But pickleball. Pickleball is a lot of fun. It's like a hybrid between badminton, tennis, and ping pong. It's unreal. It's a great cardio. It's like easy on your joints. You can make it as as fast of a game or as slow as a game as you want. And it's like, it's like you get some great rallies going. You're like, it's so fun. And we played last Sunday. Oh, my God, it was a blast.
And we were both sweating buckets because it was Smoking hot outside and we got a good tan going. I know I don't seem like I got a good tan, but a little bit, I guess. But just find ways to build in fun into your schedule when things are more challenging because that's when we need to lighten the load, lighten our demeanor, because we might be a little bit more emotionally charged and that's okay. You know, I'm a little bit mostly charged right now, and it's already. Doing this live has made me feel a heck of a lot better because I'm creating something, providing value.
I'm storytelling and all these things I love. And when we love when we do and built when we build into our routine and do things that we like, love, we're passionate about, lights up our soul. We're going to be able to navigate anything and everything much better, much easier, and it'll be more enjoyable. So Cadre, thank you all for listening in this your house, Alex of the Mindset Mindset, my mindset podcast.
