  1. 0:02Jean Mitchell invites you to share how you feel on Sunday evening

Jean Mitchells coming in here on a Sunday night, usually here on Sunday mornings. As you come in on this Sunday, my invitation to you is to first take a big old breath and to second type in the chat how you feel today. Holding this space space.

  2. 2:20The conversation today is about loving yourself first. And whether you're listening live or on repeat

Gene Seymour: Today's conversation is about loving yourself first. He asks listeners to share how they feel when they hear the phrase. Seymour: There could be a whole slew of other thoughts that go through your minds. We are really great at helping others, but are we really listening to ourselves?

  3. 8:53I can't help that person move because my knee is too swollen

I can't help that person move. But, wow, they really need help moving. But my knee hurts. Yeah, I'm going to move anyway. Takes my knee a few more days to heal. Now I won't be able to help the next people because now my knee is too swollen.

  4. 9:16On days when we feel unself loved, we give less

Dr. Charryse: On the days when we feel the most unself loved, we don't have a lot to give. What if we took time to think about the things about ourselves that we love? It's a two way street, she says, and the strongest version of you can lift the others up and help them self love too.

Hello, everybody. Jean Mitchells coming in here on a Sunday night, usually here on Sunday mornings. So if you've seen my time in the morning and you saw it, switch to later today. Thank you for holding space for me. As I adjust, I'm gonna just hold some space for a few moments for people to pop on in. Maybe on this Sunday afternoon, depending on where you are. Hey, Andi Mac. How you doing today? Ooh, you missed a spicy one today. Just letting you know. Spicy at class. As you come in on this Sunday, my invitation to you is to first take a big old breath and to second type in the chat how you feel today, how you feel right now.

You could wake up in the morning with the most positive attitude, thinking that today is going to be insert whatever the phrase, and then the day could turn into a series of plot twists. So I find a lot of beauty in just taking space to acknowledge how I feel in the moment. Doesn't mean that I didn't feel differently earlier and I won't feel different in the future. It just means that right now I'm checking in, seeing how I am. So how do you feel? So I'm sitting here in this cool space getting prepared to set up all my stuff for a sound bath.

It'll actually be my third one of the day. Once a month, I feel like I try to keep my Sundays to myself, except for once a month, I'll have my spin class in the morning, and then I'll teach three different sound baths or I'll lead three different sound baths. Biking outside with your dog today? No projects like I planned. Yeah, plans, right. They go out the window. Hey, Jules. How's it going? Happy Sunday evening. Welcome. I know it's something new. I'm not usually out here in the evenings, but I wanted to.

I had some schedule snafus this morning, so I. I felt really strongly about keeping this time on the calendar. Holding this space space. And the conversation today is about loving yourself first. Now, I'm going to say that phrase, and I'm going to invite you to sit with that. And whether you're listening live or on repeat, assuming you're not riding a bike or driving a car, I'm going to invite you to share how you feel when you hear the phrase love yourself first. So many thoughts and emotions on that.

When I said this to clients, I've said it to friends. Even when I've said it to myself or my family. Things that can pop through people's minds, and I'm just gonna say them out loud as If I was speaking them, but I'm not. Wow, that's pretty selfish. Loving yourself first. Wow. Why do you feel like you get to do that? What does that even mean? Or maybe you hear the phrase after you. Maybe you feel after you say the phrase love yourself first. Gosh, I put everybody else first. Isn't that what we're supposed to do?

There could be a whole slew of other thoughts that go through your minds when you hear the phrase love yourself first. It's not that dissimilar to the phrase, put your oxygen mask on first when you are on an airplane. And here's what's funny. I told someone in my family once that as they were working through something really difficult, and I was like, you know, you need to put your oxygen mask on first. And they looked at me so serious and they were like, Gene, that takes 30 seconds. I'm good. And I was like, okay, we're not here today.

They're not receiving what I'm throwing down. And they don't have to. That's the beauty of it. They didn't have to. I'm certain, because I know this person quite well, that they pondered on that concept later. They didn't have to tell me. Maybe they never did. I'm not attaching to it. It's not mine, it's theirs. But when I think about the phrase for myself, love yourself first. Love myself first. Things that come to mind are some simple affirmations. What if you said to yourself five times in a row right now, I love me.

I love me. I love me. I love me. Yeah, I love me. Now here's why I said five. I could say seven or 10, but definitely not one. Because the first time that you say it, you're like, yeah, whatever. She just told me to say this phrase. I'm gonna do it because she asked me to do it. The second time you say it, you're like, yeah, I feel kind of silly. Third time you say it, you're like, huh? What does this actually mean? Fourth time you say it, your body's like, yeah, yeah. And the fifth time you say it, your mind is like, yeah, yeah.

And if you said it a few more times, your whole body might start to feel a little shift, a little different. Because what's happening is you are, science wise, starting to create a new pathway in your brain about self love. I love me. I love me. I love my laugh. I love my eyes. I love my insert. Whatever. What if you spent some time every morning saying I love me, and every night before you go to bed. I love me. Why? What if? So, Jules, your first thought was, my household would crumble if I didn't put them first.

My question to you is, wouldn't your house crumble if you lost yourself? Food for thought. We are really, really great caretakers. We're really great at helping everyone else, listening to other people. But are we really listening to ourselves? So I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm not great at it. No, I'm not great at it. And I know I'm not great at it because earlier today, I snapped at somebody that I care about for no reason at all. Because I was tired. Like, literally. The question they were asking me was a simple question.

There was a simple answer. But I snapped. And I got triggered. Because I'm tired. Because all day long, I've been putting everybody else first. And I forgot to do the one thing that I've set up to do for myself. My little cacao ceremony, where I do gratitude in the morning. I didn't have time this morning because I had to get ready for my class. I had to get to the airport. I had to keep going. List goes on and on, right? So today I am finishing my last sound bath for the evening. And after this sound bath, I'm going to take a bubble bath.

I'm going to have my little cacao ceremony, and I'm going to tell myself how much I love myself. Because to Jules, point on here, if I put everything else first, we perceive that we are so important that the things that we don't do would crumble without us. Now, there might be some truth there. However, if we crumble, the things that we're trying to hold up don't even have a chance. So when I think about loving myself first, I also struggle with it. Which is why I thought it would make for a beautiful conversation.

Because what if we did put our oxygen mask on first? What if I was like, yeah, I've got a bum knee. I can't help that person move. But, wow, they really need help moving. But, gosh, my knee hurts. Yeah, I'm going to move anyway. Okay, great. I go help him move. Takes my knee a few more days to heal, so I won't be able to help the next people because now my knee is too swollen. Now I'm making that up. My knee's fine today, but it's an example. So on the days where we feel the most exhausted, the most tired, the most drained, the most depleted, the most unself loved.

Unself loved. We don't have a lot to give and if we do try to give something, we might give it in a way that maybe resents us. The other person for even asking, didn't they see I'm having a bad day? What are they doing asking me something? So take a pause. It's Mercury in retrograde, Saturn has left Gemini, it's now in Leo. Like there's all kinds of crazy things that are shifting and moving energetically and everything is asking us right now to slow down. So what if we slowed down? What if, what if we took time to think about the things about ourselves that we love?

And what if we remembered that all the houses around us that we're trying to hold up, all the people, all the business, all the connections, all the things, family members, everybody that we're trying to hold up, if they can't help themselves up, if they can't find self love, how can we help them if we don't do self love for ourselves? So I'm not here saying drop the ball. I'm not saying that what you're doing isn't amazing. But what I am saying is allow yourself to breathe for you. Because I've discovered that I need to do a little more self love for me to help all these people that I love helping so much.

Because it's a two way street, right? You feel fulfilled when you help other people, they feel grateful if we don't help them, something happens. Maybe we feel resentful because we're not recognized. But if we come from a place of self love, it doesn't even matter how anybody else responds to what we give because we know we came from a place of love because our bucket was full. But if on the days that our bucket isn't full and we give, give, give and we don't get that simple. Thank you. That feels yucky, right?

It's like ugh. You don't really recognize the sacrifice I made for you by not taking care of me, but I took care of you. I'm being facetious of course, but what if at least once a week you took a little bit of time to say I love me, I love me, I love me. And really felt what that felt like in your body. So you can refuel your bucket so that you can lift yourself up first and then the strongest version of you can lift the others up and help them self love too. So there's my food for thought tonight.

Take what you will, give back what you won't, and just know that I love you, I love you. I love you, and I hope you all have a great evening. Check out Dr. Charryse. She's next.
