  1. 0:00The miracle question helps psychotherapists identify what a client is missing

The miracle question is used by psychotherapists, coaches, counselors to try and get an idea of what a client really feels their life is missing. If something were to change overnight with no hard work involved, what would they wake up to? Good news is all of these are super achievable goals.

When you go to sleep tonight, a miracle happens and you wake up tomorrow with exactly the life that you've been waiting for. What does that look like? This is the miracle question. It's used by psychotherapists, coaches, counselors to try and get an idea of what a client really feels their life is missing in order for it to be super perfect. When I'm working with people who are new to sobriety, I really want to know what it is that they feel that they're missing. If something were to change overnight with no hard work involved, what would they wake up to?

It's normally something on the lines of different job, a better relationship with my spouse, better relationship with my children, better financial situation, a little bit more support in terms of getting sober. Good news is all of these are super achievable goals. Once we've identified exactly what it is that a client is looking for and aiming towards, then we can start to make those first steps.
