Sally Kohn has had a quite emotional week. She talks to her therapist about feeling aimless and lonely. Kohn: It's hard for me to think about things that I want that are realistic.
How many other weird ways can Rachel say goodbye? Probably a thousand. All right, my loves, I'm gonna take off and maybe make one of these videos. And I will see you same time, same place next week.
Happy Wednesday. Cadre crew. Hello. I'm finishing lunch, which was quite delicious. Leftover Vietnamese food. Love it, love it, love it, love it. I'm gonna wait for. Oh, hello. I've got my sunscreen on my eyelashes. Oh, Milo, you want to come join the live? Milo? Milo. Milo wants to be included. Say hello. Milo likes to participate. He gets. He feels left out sometimes, so Milo needs a haircut. We're gonna get you a haircut soon, buddy. Happy Wednesday, everybody. I hope you are all thriving, existing breathing.
I have had a quite emotional week. I was really, really sad on Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday, I just was experiencing a lot of what I. What. What feels like grief, but it's almost like grief for something that hasn't happened. It's like grief for a future, in a way. And it was something that I've been talking to my therapist about, which is like this idea of. It's a feeling of not knowing, not necessarily knowing what I want. And because I don't know what I want, I feel like I don't know where I'm going.
And it's less about, like, not having goals and. Or it's not like I don't want things. Like when she asked, she asked me. She was like, well, what do you want? And I was like, well, what I want is to never have to work again and just travel the world and hang out with people I love. That would be lovely. But that's not realistic. So it's hard for me to think about things that I want that are realistic. And I think that what it kind of all was boiling down to was this feeling of just lacking direction and maybe lacking the specificity of how do I turn that sort of fictional, unrealistic desire into something that is realistic.
Like, if what I. If what I want is to network and just be able to travel and hang out with my friends. And that's not realistic. What is realistic? Well, I could plan a trip with a friend. I could be intentional about creating activities to do with people I care about that I want to spend time with. Whether it's like a community dinner or, you know, a plan. An organized activity really is just, like, not letting me be in front of the camera. You want to be the center of attention, buddy. Yeah, I know.
So it was interesting because I, like, was feeling super, super emotional on Monday. And sometimes when I go to therapy, I, like, don't really know what it is I'm feeling emotional about yet. And I just need to cry first. I need to cry, and then I can start sort of Verbalizing like where it's coming from or what it is. And so it was interesting because there was this component of like, oh, wow, I feel completely aimless. I feel like I don't know where I'm going in life. I don't know what's coming or what's happening next.
I don't know what I want to happen next. I don't even know what to start doing to make that happen. And, and then the other, the other piece that came up was just this feeling of loneliness. And you know, I, I got divorced in 2020 and I've been single for the last six years and I've learned to really love, love my single life. I don't have any, you know, qualms about that. At the same time, like, I take care of myself completely. Like I am the only person taking care of me, of my home, of Milo, of my bills, of all of my adult responsibilities.
Like, yes, of course my friends and family support me and help me when I need it. But there are nights when I come home and it would just be so lovely to have a partner, to have someone who would be like, don't worry, I'll take care of dinner tonight. Or I already walked Milo, so you don't need to do that when you get home. It's these small little things of like, oh, it would be really lovely to be able to just let go of that responsibility for, for five minutes and realizing that that loneliness is definitely creeping in and that wanting to be collaborative and share my life with somebody.
And I'm sitting, I'm telling you all this as if I have a solution. I don't have a solution. But I'm telling you all this because I, I don't think I really let myself feel a lot of these things when they come up. A lot of times when I, when I have that feeling of coming home and feeling lonely or wishing like, oh God, I'm like really f****** tired. It would be really lovely if someone else could help me with these responsibilities for the night. Instead of acknowledging that I feel that way and maybe crying or calling a friend and being sad about it or journaling, I do sort of, I do these self destructive things instead.
I find other ways to cope with that that are, that are harmful. And a lot of it is because I'm really tired and it's hard for me to choose something that maybe is, is going to be healthy because that requires energy. So something I'm really working on right now is, excuse me, I literally just ate. Very garlicky. Is Trying to tap into those moments when I am tired and wish somebody was there to take care of me or when I'm, you know, when I'm feeling lonely or sad and really trying to check in with myself and ask myself, like, what can I possibly do for myself that doesn't require too much energy but still feels like I'm taking care of myself?
And that is my sort of my challenge to myself this may is to try and tap into those things. Oh, thank you, sweetheart. Oh, thank you, bubba. Thank you. Is to tap into those things a little bit more. And Milo's tapped in. Geez. So yeah, that's sort of like my goal this month is to really be able to focus on some of those things. So that means that I'm going to be doing a lot more journaling. Um, I. I think I've talked a little bit about journaling here, but I used to be like a, like freakazoid journaler.
Like every single morning I was journaling, I was journaling in the evenings. Like, journaling was such a great way for me to check in with myself, but also to be super kind to myself in times when I was feeling upset. Like, I would write, I would write to myself. And so I'm gonna try and pick that back up and I plan to post some videos here with some props to help with that. Because I think it's helpful sometimes to have prompts when we don't really know what to ask ourselves. So if there's anything that you're struggling with that you think like, writing through would be helpful about, feel free to leave a comment.
And I can try and create some journaling prompts around that and make a video about it. Because I think that that is something that is really, really helpful when we're, when we're struggling to, you know, get. Get support from other people and we have to give it to ourselves. I think journaling is a really great way to have self dialogue. So that's my little update for you today. Kelsey says, very relatable. Thank you for sharing. Also, I'm obsessed with Milo. Thanks. I'm obsessed with him too.
I really need to get him a haircut because he's starting to not be able to see. So maybe next time you see me guys, next week he'll have more eyeballs. Okay, Rachel says journaling prompts for feeling behind. That's a good one. Hang on, Milo. I'm gonna have to let you down because I gotta write this down. Okay. Love you. Big leap. Big leap, buddy. Okay, Journaling prompts for free. Feeling behind. Okay, that's a good one, Rach. I'm not talking to myself. I'm talking to Rachel. Although I do talk to myself, so that's okay.
Okay, great. I will. I will add that in there. All right, my loves, I'm gonna take off and maybe make one of these videos. And I will see you same time, same place next week. How many other weird ways can Rachel say goodbye? Probably a thousand. Okay, bye.
