Dr. Leslie discusses how our upbringing can cause us to unknowingly create chaos or find comfort in chaos.
The first thing that comes to mind is that it feels familiar. If we grew up in a toxic environment or we have experienced multiple toxic relationships, the chaos can feel familiar to us. When we don't have the chaos, we create it somehow.
The first thing that comes to mind is that it feels familiar. So if we grew up in a toxic environment or we have experienced multiple toxic relationships, the chaos can feel familiar to us. Where it's something that we already know. We know how to operate in that space. And when we don't have the chaos, we create it somehow. So maybe it's through communication, maybe it's through making up a problem that doesn't really exist. Sometimes people do that in therapy because they only know how to operate from a place of chaotic environments or chaos in their minds.
Just clutter in their minds. But where there's toxicity in the relationship, that feels right, because that's all they know. So the chaos is familiar.
