Mental health Awareness Month in May is what is trending here at girls mentorship. So fill up your cup first so that you can serve and show up for all of those people that you love. Have a wonderful day, y'all.

Hey, party people. Hello, everyone. Happy Tuesday. The happiest of Tuesdays. How are you all doing? How are you? We're actually very well, thank you for asking. It's Tuesday, which means it is trending Tuesdays. And we are your hosts, Jill and Mary. Hi, everyone. We're the founders of a company called Girls Mentorship, where we get to work with teen and tween girls and teach them life and personal development skills. We understand you're probably not a teen or a tween girl tuning in. However, these life and personal development skills are literally for everyone.

We just happen to be very good at teaching them to that specific demographic, but we love talking about them in general, especially. Especially. What's up, Jocelyn? Hey, Chris. Especially given that it's May, and May has a very specific focus, which is mental health awareness, and we are big about youth mental health and how we can help our young people become the next strong, capable leaders that we are looking at them to be. Woo. Way to start this show. We have a couple of statistics that we wanted to share with you because May is mental health awareness month, and it's not just our mental health.

How do we teach our kiddos at a young age that mental health matters and that we're breaking stigma? I think we're finally kind of. We're coming to a point in our society where it's okay to talk about how you're feeling, it's okay to not be okay, and how do we actually teach that to our kids versus us? Just experimenting, expecting that they come to us with their problems. So we see it on a totally different level than probably why all of us are here on Cadre, right, to fill up our own mental health cups.

And wherever you are in your journey, we're here as a Cadre sphere, as a community, to walk alongside you. And that's exactly what we also get to do with these teen and tween girls that we work with. So, first statistic, did you know one in six young people between the ages of six to 17 years old face mental health challenges each and every year? This one is staggering. We don't love this one, but it is the truth. In terms of what the numbers are saying, suicide ranks as the second leading cause of death amongst ten to 24 year olds.

And here's the kicker. Nearly 60% of teens with major depression don't get any treatment. So as much as Jill is talking about the fact that the pendulum has swung for us as a society to be more open with our mental health struggles and our mental health concerns, we still have a lot of room for improvement, which is why communities like this, exactly what Joe was saying, exist. Right. We come here to share our lived experience with those around us. Hey, Donna. Welcome. We come here to share our lived experience and share what we're doing in the world that helps make a positive difference.

Right. A healthy difference for not only ourselves, but for those around us. Because it's that old saying, the tide raises all ships in the bay. I got that totally wrong. But you get what I mean. That was really good. It was really good. Yeah. And you're right. Starts with us and something that we've been really inspired by in terms of. I think Mary and I are just kind of. Our palms are always open in terms of, like, how do we refine ourselves? Whether it's our mental health, whether it's our professional load, our personal load, like, how are we getting better?

Because when we can get better, that's when we can really show up and serve our communities. And we've been super inspired by a book recently that Dan Sullivan wrote, and it's called the Gap and the Gain. The Gap and the Gain. And I would love, as we get into this conversation, a little bit more about this book. It's a series of books, actually. We've been locked in. What are some of the ways that you work on your mental health? If you're tuning in right now, is it mental health? Walk? Is it therapy?

Is it gym time? Is it a good book? What are some of the things that you do to make sure that your cup is getting poured back into? So as we start to dive into this gap in the gain mentality, right. You can imagine being in the gap is being in the lack or being in some sort of a victim mentality. As if you can't do much about your situation, which, granted, some of you may not. Some of you may have your hands tight and may not be able to do much about your situation, but there's always something you can do, which is shifting your perspective to being in the gain.

So what is this teaching me? We love to make sure we're in the gain by celebrating three daily wins. Three daily wins. Whatever it is. It could have been something that went horribly, terribly wrong, but we learned something from it. We derived a lesson from it. We will check that up as a win. So three daily help keep us in the gain. And look at those wins. It could be really big, like, I got my job promotion. That's incredible. Or it can be something really small that sometimes we overlook. So it doesn't always have to be really big wins.

It could be those really tiny, small victories as well. And the second thing in terms of this mindset is setting yourself up for success tomorrow. So, yes, what are we celebrating? Like, what are the wins today but also at night? This is really important. So I want you to lean in with me. Is stopping the scroll, because I know at nighttime, it's kind of like we're just ready to check out. We've had a full day, and the statistics around this are staggering. 96% of Americans say that they screw in the half an hour before bed.

And 90% of Americans say that their scrolling puts them to sleep. Yes. So Jill is saying it's so important at nighttime because that hour right before you go to bed literally sets you and your teenagers, by the way, up for success for tomorrow. If you are scattered and reactive at night because you have been aimlessly consuming, then you will be scattered and reactive the next day. So, literally, it's the entire concept of setting your future self up for success. Her or him. To be successful. Well, you have to do something about it in the here and the now.

Yes. So think about three things. So just like you're celebrating your. Your three wins today, think about those three wins in the future. So maybe those future wins actually turn into your wins, which the whole concept of this is winning your future self, your current self, win your day. And I know a lot of us have a very long to do list, but if we can really focus on three things, that's you accomplishing something. That's you feeling like you did something really well. Because we can always look at the negative to be like, well, didn't get that done.

That makes me now a failure or that makes me now fill in the blank. Right. You're going into the gap. This whole mentality is to keep you in the gain. It's your success. And then. I love that call out for. Just. Just let me go on a tangent for just a second. If you can derive three wins out of one day, that's 21 wins a week. Right. The math continues to compel them, which is amazing, because when we feel like we're winning by doing something that is human beings like order, they do. They like repetitiveness.

If we can do something on a daily basis that helps boost our mentality in that. That in and of itself is helping us and our mental health. Absolutely right. So the compound effect in that really just says, okay, I may have lost or I may have fallen down, but at the end of the day, I still won the day, I'm still winning, which means that you could literally just be winning for the rest of your life. How great is that? I love it. And then finally, one other added piece, which a lot of us practice this practice already.

It's the attitude of gratitude. So what, outside of your wins, outside of setting yourself up for the day tomorrow, what can you just be grateful for? And this is really practicing what you have right now. What are the goods? What are the bads? It's not looking outside of yourself, but, like, what, what's the silver lining that you can just really count your blessings on and say, you know what? I live to see another day. These were really beautiful lessons in my day, and I'm super grateful for them.

So three gratitudes is also a really great practice. In addition to those other two, the other thing that I want to point out alongside that is within this book, the Gap and the gain, Dan Sullivan talks about Viktor Frankl, who was a Holocaust survivor, and his gratitude was the same thing every single day. It was a tree that he could see that had leaves or fruit. It had something going on for all four seasons. So over the, I think, four or five years that he was in this concentration camp, he managed to make sure that he practiced seeing something outside of himself that could bring him beauty and joy and allow him to practice gratitude, which was a tree.

So I say that to say it doesn't have to be different on a daily basis. It doesn't have to be loud or exuberant. The fact that you woke up this morning is something that you can be grateful for every single day and continue to work to master. Right? If it's something you do every day, let's get a system around it, right? Oh, I saw her heart. Okay. That resonated with you guys. It's wonderful. So all of these things, these three easy peasy practices that you could do within five minutes help boost your mental stability and can help with the statistics that we read right at the beginning of this.

So what's trending? It's May. Mental health Awareness Month in May is what is trending here at girls mentorship. Right. And it starts with you. So fill up your cup first so that you can serve and show up for all of those people that you love and are super important in your world. So with that, you guys go off and live a transformed life. On this Tuesday, baby, there's nobody after us. But there was some good coffee chats before us today. And you well know that Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, that stretch into the weekend is on.

And Poppin we will see you on Thursday. Same time, same place. Have a wonderful day, y'all. Bye.
