A lot of people get their information on TikTok, which the Biden administration has put into. It is creating a lot of conversation specifically within the Gen Z generation. We need to take the trend of what's going on with TikTok and apply it into every conversation that we have with people.
So with that, I hope you took a little golden nugget from this trending Tuesday to take into your actual life. Catch Mary and I again on caretaker Thursday where we're going to talk to our parents because parents are caretakers to our teens and tweens. And don't forget to tune in for the rest of the week.
Hello, Cadre Sphere. Happy Tuesday. How are you? I am Jill Peterson. I am half of the dynamic duo that makes up girls mentorship, where we teach life and personal development skills to tween and teen girls. Now you're wondering. Well, I'm not a tween or teen girl. That's okay. Do not pass this scroll or tune out of this live stream. We talk constantly in our business about upcoming trends and things that are trending that our kids are experiencing. Come to find out when we talk about these trends with our teen and tweens.
A lot of the, a lot of the conversation really needs to be educated to our parents and adults. So I would love for you in this conversation to hang with me and let's create a dialogue around what's trending in pop culture, in society, what's happening in the world, because the more that we know, the better we can do. So. Hi, everyone who's popping in? What's good, alec? Hi, Jules. Share with me where you guys are coming from. Drop it in the chat. I am from sunny South Scottsdale, Arizona. Is anybody in my neighborhood?
Anybody like on the west coast? Alec, I know you're coming from California. Jules, where are you tuning in from? Would love to hear where you're from as well. You know, just because we want to stay connected. Hi, Chris. I'm pretty sure Chris is coming from. Where are you coming from, Chris? Minnesota. Are you maybe in Colorado? Share, share. Oh, Jules. Good afternoon. Hi. You're coming from northern, in Michigan, not Michigan, Minnesota. That's so awesome. Hi, hazy. You guys, you know, just being hot right now.
Humble, open and transparent. I am home with my eight year old son who just got his adenoids surgically removed yesterday. So he is, he's hanging with me behind with the dog, you know, the constant juggle. And I'm sure if you are a working parent, you can understand when you have a sick kiddo that you just, you make it work. And whether you have kids or not, you make it work. Well, love, love, love that. You guys are letting me know where you guys are tuning in from today. What I want to talk to you guys about is around a trending topic that I'm sure we've all heard.
It's been on the news. It's been all over. And where do you guys consume the news right now? Are you guys tv watchers? Do you guys tune into an app like, you know, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times? Like, also let me know where you get a lot of your information because what I want to share today is about the current TikTok ban that the Biden administration has put into. Alex said, Twitter. Yep. Ton of people still tune into that. A lot of people actually get their information on TikTok, which, as we know, has been a huge controversy around just, just that, that app alone, but that the TikTok ban recently went into, it went into play, I guess you would say, last week.
And it is creating a lot of conversation specifically within the Gen Z organ or the Gen Z generation around them. Basically the government taking away their freedom of speech, where they tune in and get their information. I wanted to create a conversation around how that makes you all feel, because what we know as adults and millennials, I'm a millennial myself, is you have to be really mindful of where you get your information, because nowadays you can literally show up online, spit out a couple of statistics, and people believe that to be truth, whereas they don't go and then maybe research it themselves to know the facts.
So it's been really interesting being really engulfed in our younger demographic, that TikTok is where they get lot of their information, and now that the government is banning it, they're all, they're freaking out about it. So what do you need to know about this? Well, a couple of things. One, that it's going to take a while for this to actually happen. So if you have kids yourself, or if you are a caretaker to kiddos, or if you're just around kids and you're starting to hear them, maybe talk about this, let them know that this is going to be a process, it's not going to happen overnight, and that there will be, you know, there's going to be some legal actions going on.
So I think an interesting conversation with them is like, why are they so attached to this platform? And what happens, what happens if they lose this platform? Like, what, what would that do for them? Getting information, posting information, understanding information. What is it about TikTok that if it were to be removed tomorrow, that they would be missing and curious for you guys, are you currently on TikTok, and are you more of like a scroller and a consumer, or do you actually post content?
And also, would that take a hit to your livelihood? Cause I know a lot of people are also talking about that this is where they make their living, is being a content creator. So just curious, because this has really kind of opened the floodgates to a ton of different ways on approaching this, in talking to kids that they feel like their expression is kind of being taken away based off of like, what the government is doing and just in terms of how do we support them? Because what we know in the work that Mary and I do with girls mentorship is it's empathizing and then validating.
If you guys tuned into our live last week on Thursday, we do caretaker Thursday. The main message that we had for parents was when we talk to our kids, whether we agree with them or whether we disagree with them or not, when we don't empathize and or validate, that's when we lose the relationship with them. And our kids are living in a completely different generation. So knowing that they might have more feelings or might be connected to TikTok more than anybody else, and maybe you guys are tuning in today, and you're like, I don't really care about this conversation.
Why it matters is because we need to take the trend of what's going on with TikTok and apply it into every conversation that we have with people. People have different beliefs and ideals and opinions, and as opposed to us diminishing them because we think the platform is stupid, how do we actually practice empathy? How do we actually listen to what someone else is feeling and experiencing in their own reality? To just empathize and then validate? We might not always see eye to eye. If TikTok, in my opinion, were to be removed tomorrow, I'm okay with that.
I use it more as entertainment purposes. Honestly, it's a way for me to kind of pass time, but it wouldn't rattle me as a person if it went away tomorrow. However, I would listen to someone else having a different conversation around TikTok. My way doesn't always have to be the way. And when our young people express themselves, we like to come in and bulldoze them because we think we know better, we're wiser, we have more experience, which we do. But that's when we really tear people down and stop building the relationship, because we're trying to impose our beliefs, our knowing, onto them, and that's where the conflict happens.
So what I want all of you to practice today and be mindful of. Yes. Not that TikTok is here nor there, or maybe it's going to be around for another nine months or whatever it is, but really it's being able to extract the lesson of how do we make sure that we're listening. We're listening fully without coming to a conversation with preconceived notions. I don't know about any of you, but sometimes, if I'm not present with the person that I'm talking to. I'm already thinking about my response because I want to have something.
I want to have something ready to say when they're done speaking. And I've had to really practice this. Just come from a place of nothing. Listen, from a place of nothing. And when we can do that, that's when we get to build this connection with the person in front of us. Whether they're your children, whether they're your teenager, whether they're somebody that you work with or a stranger on the street, when we can really be with people and listen to them and empathize with them and validate how they're feeling, that's when we can really move forward in a healthy way.
Because right now, what we're seeing online is the noise that a lot of this is really stirring within all of us. So that's my message for us today on this trending Tuesday is knowing that it starts with us, that we really are the key holders to allowing people to express themselves fully without tearing them down or making them feel right or wrong. And that's the biggest message that we can take into all relationships that we have, whether we show up online, in online relationships, or in our daily interactions, because it is a practice, and that's why we come on this app.
So, not saying that, you know, whether TikTok comes or goes or whatever that may be, but how do we come on Cadre? Because truly, this app meets you where you are, so that you can hold a mirror to yourself, to check in with yourself. Like, how am I showing up today? Like, truly, how am I showing up today? How am I reacting or responding to these trends that are constantly coming up in our society and our pop culture? How am I contributing to the noise? Or how am I actually being a stand by, being a really good person when everybody else is trying to rip each other down?
That's why we come here. That's why we have incredible creators on this app. That's why we have this Cadre sphere of people who tune into these lives to check in with themselves, to say, how can I do better? And maybe, maybe today you're like, man, I'm really feeling like I'm at a one. And that's okay. Hopefully, by the end of this day, by being a little more mindful, having a little more awareness, you can take this conversation into a relationship or a conversation that you're going to have later and say, like, man, even though I felt like I was a one, I actually showed up more present, more patient, so that I didn't spill onto that other person.
My bad day. And that's what it's all about. We're all here not, not tearing each other down, but rising and raising the bar. Mary and I always like to say we want to raise the group average and that takes time, that takes practice, that takes real conversations, and that takes into account how we operate and how we view the world. So with that, friends, I hope you took a little golden nugget from this trending Tuesday to take into your actual life, into your real relationships, to make a difference and an impact with those around you.
And don't forget to tune in for tomorrow. We have like awesome, incredible days throughout this week. But catch Mary and I again on caretaker Thursday where we're going to talk to our parents because parents are caretakers to our teens and tweens. So hopefully we will see you back on Thursday. And don't forget to tune in for the rest of the week and we'll see you next time, guys. Have a wonderful day.
