  1. 0:00Do you ever have big goals that feel overwhelming or out of reach

Do you ever have these big goals that may feel overwhelming, may feel very far off in the distance? What's the values underneath them? What creates an opportunity for actualized change in our lives here and now? And it's one step, whatever that might look like.

What's going on? Cadre family, joining you here from the parking lot of a gym. And you know, what's been on my mind today as it relates to actualized change, meaning real, substantial changes in our lives, is this idea of taking a step. And I'll get back to that in a minute, but I want to start with asking you a question, and. And the question I want to ask is, do you ever have these big goals, these big goals that may feel overwhelming, may feel very far off in the distance? Maybe includes money, right?

Maybe includes a certain type of health or fitness, maybe includes a type of job or skill that you want to obtain. These big goals that take time, take patience, takes effort. And if you're anything like me, you've encountered these big goals in your life and at some point have become kind of paralyzed under the. The weight of how lofty these goals feel, right? Like something so far off in the distance that it's just out of reach, right? And sometimes, if we don't have a practical idea that we're capable of obtaining a certain goal or achievement in our lives, we find ourselves stuck, right?

I'm stuck in this place of I want to do this thing, and maybe I even know where to start, but the amount of work and effort and so on and so forth just feels overwhelming. And so it can't be very helpful to be stuck there. And we have to ask ourselves, what works? What's gonna be helpful? Because we know it takes time and it takes effort to achieve those goals. And so I'm gonna offer this idea, and it has to do with our values and expectations, the first thing with our values. So take a goal in mind.

Like, a goal for me is like, having the financial freedom to travel wherever, whenever I wish, because I really like trying new things. I like meeting new people, hearing new stories, eating new food. And those things are really valuable to me, right? They're things that really fill me up. And this goal that I have to be able to do that in my life feels kind of far off, right? And, to an extent, can get in the way of what I hope fulfillment may look like in my life, but for a minute, I need to stop and think about what those values actually mean to me, because the reality is, I can go downtown Minneapolis right now, and I can eat something from a different culture.

I can meet somebody from a different background. I can have an experience I wouldn't have had unless I intentionally pursued that opportunity. And so even though I have this big goal that I still have, that's still important. To me, at the bottom level, there's things underneath that that are immediately achievable, immediately engageable in my day to day life. I just have to create the space and maybe discomfort to do them. So that's number one. The second thing is expectations. Can we allow ourselves to not be good at something for the sake of wanting to be good at it?

Can we give ourselves the space to maybe fail, fall down, not do as big of a thing right away as we think we want to do and be okay with that? In other words, one step at a time, what does one step look like today? And often when we frame it in that way, rather than I have to be a millionaire tomorrow, instead, I just want to see what I'm interested in, right. I just want to try something new tomorrow, whatever that may be. We all of a sudden set something that's a little bit more engageable, something that's a little bit more practical.

And at the bottom line here is that change doesn't happen until it does. And so what creates an opportunity for actual change in our lives here and now? And it's one step, whatever that might look like. So my encouragement to you this week is think about, you know, where are those big, lofty goals? What's the values underneath them, the directions, the things that push you in that direction, and then what's in front of you, what's accessible, what's available here and now that you can take one step into this week, each day, this month, this year, and be open to who you might be a year from now, what might change a year from now, one step at a time.

Have a great rest of your week. Thank you for tuning in. I appreciate everybody who hopped on, and I hope that there's anything here that you took from this sticks with you, and anything that maybe didn't resonate with you slides off your shoulders as you go on with your day.
