LZ: I am in a wedding this week. The bride is eight and a half years sober. She says her career has taken off as a result of not drinking. LZ: What prompted your decision to go alcohol free for a year?

  2. 7:57Think about the things that you want to implement or change in your life

So I ask you, what is the thing that you want to change or do in order to get one step closer to your big dream? There is nothing holding you back other than you and the decisions that you make. Love you guys.

Good morning. I'm gonna see if anybody hops in. I've got a doggie in front of me right here sleeping. And I was up twice last night with a puppy, so it's one of those big coffee mornings, and I'm wearing. I thought you guys would appreciate this. My high school lacrosse sweatshirt, which is now vintage with my name and number on the sleeve, which I totally love. I know this thing is just going to be, like, a gem one day. And as of right now, it's like, I would say it's over 20 years old. Anyway, I wanted to talk to you guys this morning about my choice to go alcohol free for a year, and I have a little story.

I am in a wedding this week. Well, I'm styling a wedding, and I'm just a part of the wedding. I'm not in the wedding party, but I am styling it, and it's one of my dear friends. And the rehearsal dinner was last night, and the wedding is tomorrow. I love that she gave us a day between the rehearsal dinner and the wedding, so there's, like, time to get some stuff done. I've never had that before from a bride and groom, so that was, like, a huge blessing because I have a ton of things to do today, and clearly I'm still in my sweats because I just like to lounge in the morning if I don't have to go anywhere.

But everyone at the table knew each other or knows each other from the vodka or the spirits industry, and the bride actually works for a spirits company. And so a lot of what this group does is centered around alcohol. And I met a lot of new people last night for the first time. People on the groom side that I haven't met. I've really met none of his friends, because I'm friends with the bride. And I got seated at this dinner near a group of guys, and one guy and his wife, and everyone was ordering their rounds of cocktails.

And, listen, I have no problem ordering a mocktail. And I have been celebrating the fact that I don't drink these days. And I said something about, oh, somebody said, oh, don't worry, there's soda water or something for you. I think the bride said something like, we have a mocktail list or something. And one of the guys wives that was there at the table looked at me and said, oh, you don't drink either? And I was like, yay, there's two of us at this, like, super long table of, like, 30 people. And we started talking, and her husband said to me, you know, may I ask, like, what prompted your decision?

And you'll have to go back, you know, I won't get into it again here, but you'll have to go back to my live stream, January, my old live streams to learn the reason why I chose to do it. But he said, you know, can I ask why and can I ask you, like, what your experience has been and have you noticed anything different? And she wanted to hear what I had to say first, and then I, of course, wanted to hear what she had to say about her experience. And one of the things that stood out to me was that we both said that our careers have either catapulted or just changed or developed since we gave up alcohol.

She is eight and a half years sober. And he does. He is not sober. And he said, you know, one of the things that I wanted to make sure and that we do a check in as husband and wife every single year that she's been sober is we do this check in where I ask her, does it bother you that I drink? Are you still okay with it? And we communicate about the fact that I'm still drinking alcohol and she is not. And I first of all, loved that. But she works for Nike, which I love. She works for, in marketing for Nike.

And she said that her career has absolutely taken off as a result of not drinking alcohol. And I sat back and thought about it and, you know, my career hasn't, like, catapulted. But the decisions that I've been able to make with a clear head and clear mind and not drinking and not waking up foggy or going down the shame spiral or feeling like I'm not getting good sleep because I'm not a great sleeper anyway. I realized one of the greatest things and one of the, like, the best, like, freedoms that I've had from not drinking is that I have full control over my productivity.

And when I think about how far my business has come in the last eight months, nine months, year, ten months, I'm ten months in now. When I think about the things that have happened and how all 22 items in our rescue kit will be branded in our name, and I think about the connections and the groundwork that I've laid and the seeds that I've planted and what I've been able to accomplish in my personal life as well, I just think about, like, the time that I gave myself back and the mental space that I gave back to myself.

And I think about the fact that I probably would not have been able to accomplish those things had I experienced the guilt and the shame that I felt from drinking alcohol. And this is my personal journey, guys, don't forget like this. Everyone's journey is. Is different. Everyone's reasons and their why are different. My why was because I want to build an empire. I want to take over the world with my business. I want to be a household name. And I personally know that I cannot reach that goal if I'm going down the shame spiral and the guilt train of the feelings that I feel when I drink alcohol.

And I felt like I had some camaraderie last night. I also felt like somebody had shown me the way a little bit. She's been doing this for eight and a half years. And the question at the table, too, from a couple people, was, okay, so, December 29, what do you do? Do you take a drink? Do you reintroduce alcohol back into your life? Or do you keep it going? And I thought to myself, there is no way I'm gonna drink on the 29th. I just feel like that would be putting me, like, right back where I started.

And I didn't do this to check, like, this goal or mussogi off my list, to change that healthy habit that I have built. I wanted to do this to prove to myself that I can build a healthy habit. I can stick to what I say I'm gonna do, and I can make a change for myself in my control, if that makes any sense. So, anyway, when it comes to making my big dreams come true, I think I've shown myself that there is nothing, even a lifelong habit, for the most part. I mean, I've been drinking alcohol since high school.

There's nothing that I cannot change or do in order to accomplish my goals. So I ask you, what is the thing that you want to change or do in order to get one step closer to your big dream? What is the thing that you want to stop? What is the thing you want to start? What is the thing you want to give up? What is the thing you want to gain? Think about those things when you're working toward your big dream, because there is nothing holding you back other than you and the decisions that you make. So I love you guys.

Thank you for tuning in. Sorry I was a little bit behind today. I hope that you enjoyed this message and this cuddly, waddly dog here. And I just hope that you have an amazing weekend and really think about the things that you want to implement or change in your life in order to get one step closer to your big dream. Love you guys.
