Hello, we are live. Hi Cadre sphere. Hello, hello. Happy Wednesday. 30 here in Minnesota. Just had some fresh veggies. I think we've talked about this before, but sure do love this time of year where everything's fresh and delicious and you can get it at the farmers market and support the local community. So welcome Christy Larson here. Hi Mel Myers, welcome. Christy Larson here. I am just working away here at home. My phone is propped up and it's not probably going to stay very well. So if I drop it, I apologize or drop you.
I apologize. I am in a weird spot. My house has. kind of been makeshift a little bit. So we have enough room for my dad to stay while my mom's been in the hospital. And so my house is a little bit of a shuffle right now for anybody that's ever had anybody staying at their house. Sometimes they move in and all of a sudden you got to put things in different spots. So hello, Mel. But so I was going to talk a little bit today about just kind of racing around. I feel like summertime comes and summertime goes so quickly.
And I don't know about you all, but you're racing from thing to thing, right? And most of it's really fun. You get to go to a BBQ at a friend's house or you're going to the pool or you're reading by the beach or you're gardening or. Running around a soccer baseball or softball or whatever it is with the kiddos And there's a lot of running around and some of it's great and some of it It's like oh we got to you know drop everything and get to the next thing and drop everything and get to the next thing and Sometimes we forget to slow down a little bit and enjoy the moment and since June for those of you that have followed me along since June 16th My mom has been she had her second brain surgery and so she's been in the hospital.
And so our days, our summer has looked very, very different from going to work all day to going to the hospital in the evenings to be with her. My dad's summer has looked completely different. He has spent the day at the hospital with my mom and then the evenings here with me going home every now and then. He lives about two hours away from the hospital. going home every now and then just to mow the lawn and do some laundry and your regular household chores that need to get done even though you're not there.
So he has been back and forth. So our summers have looked so different and we have spent a lot of time in the hospital room waiting, sitting, helping. Sometimes it's calm in there. Sometimes it's quiet in there. Sometimes it's neither one of those things in there. But the summer began with us thinking, hey, we're going to have time at the cabin. We're going to be able to go on the boat. We're going to be able to go camping and do all the things that we absolutely love and mom's health and recovery has taken priority as it should, right?
And so we've been doing things a little bit differently this summer and with that comes a lot of reflecting, a lot of praying, a lot of planning for the next steps for her. Thankfully she's going home today and while that's a huge celebration, she's got a really long road of recovery ahead of her and I, my, my dad has a long road, um, because he is the sole caregiver. And so he is the one that is going to be helping her with the day-to-day tasks and also makeshifting as a physical therapist and an occupational therapist and a speech pathologist.
And, um, and that's really hard, right? Their summer was not meant to be this either. It was meant to be going camping and, um, going down to the beach and going fishing and doing the things that they also love to do. So summer looks different this year than it has in the past, and that's okay. It has given us lots of time as a family to, you know, as I said, reflect and pray and really plan for what we want the next, you know, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 months to look like as mom recovers from this brain surgery.
And in sitting in there, it's fascinating what your brain comes up with when it's under pressure and stress and the things that she says, sometimes hilarious and sometimes wacky and sometimes scary. And so we've spent a lot of time together and that's been really good. And now dad's at the hospital picking her up. It's discharge day for my mom. That's exciting, right? Scary, really scary, but really exciting. She's been begging to go home since June 16th. So today's the day, which is great. This kind of circles me back to I used to really heavily coach job seekers and it always circles me back this time of year to job seeking and how job seeking is this constant cycle, right?
You're constantly doing the next thing, looking for the next thing, applying to the next thing, making the next cover letter, making the next resume. And it's a full-time job or can be a full-time job depending on how you're conducting your job search. And so I always take time this year and say this time of year, I always encourage people to take time and really relax, enjoy some of the summer, take breaks, right? Get outside, get fresh air, If you're a job seeker, this is your time to rest, relax, take some breaks, continue seeking, continue doing your search, but enjoy the time outside while we have it, at least here in Minnesota.
We get very, very short summers for the most part. So get outside, enjoy it. That's what I got for you today, Cadre Sphere. I always enjoy being here. You know I love y'all and I'll see you next week. um next Wednesday next Wednesday uh July 15th I believe is next Wednesday so uh take care Cadre Spear Mel Myers take care be well and soak in a little bit of that me time today enjoy y'all have a great rest of your Wednesday and I'll see you next week
