Hello? Hello. Welcome to sober, not somber hour. Tuesday afternoon. I'm your host. Jenk welcome in. Cadre sphere. Um, my pop copper is, uh, always by my side. And he is once again today, we'll just see how anxious he is to get out for a w a. L K. Hey, Rachel. Welcome so glad you're here. Thanks for tuning in, um, yeah today, you guys, I wanna get into the concept of mindfulness. Um, but first we're gonna mindfully open. My non-alcoholic beverage of choice that I'm featuring today. This one is called prima pave.
Many Americans wrongly pronounce it. Prima pave. I did that for a long time until. Someone in Italy, kindly, uh, corrected me. This is a rose Dolce. And I am celebrating. Um, well, I guess I'm always celebrating sober days. How many sober days I have, I. Have almost 12 years coming up, um, in a couple weeks. And this bottle. Okay. So bear with me, cuz I'm gonna open it and, uh, it's kind of champagne, like, but I don't think it's gonna go anywhere. I think I'm gonna be able to, oh my gosh, you guys.
Open this. Wow. It's been in my fridge for a while. Maybe it just is not gonna. Cooperate. Dang. I really wanted to celebrate with you guys. It is like on here. Oh, thank you for the birthday wishes. Yeah, I just had a birthday. Uh, June 28th, it was Sunday and I posted all about it on Instagram. And I was very mindful. About the whole birthday experience this year for a lot of reasons. Reasons. Um, but yeah, what I am celebrating is the launch of a new brand. Uh, called wild rise and it is all about.
Sauna and social experiences that decentralize alcohol. So. If you're here. Welcome. If you are a hundred percent sober, however you consider that or. Curious about what, um, drinking less might look like for you. You are in the right place. Today, I wanna get into mindfulness. Um, and I have an empty glass, so I'm mindful. Of that, that I'm gonna have to open this bottle after the call, because it's just impossible to open. Um, and I wanna chat about. What the practice of mindfulness can do. If you were trying to make better choices.
And sobriety. So one thing that's then called to my attention is recently. I started, um, an intermittent fast. Um, if any of you have ever done that, let me know, put it in the chat. Have you done it? Um, have you done a 12 hour, 14 hour, 16 hour for how long? Was it good, bad? Was it hard? Um, I did one after about four months after the onset of COVID, I had noticed, um, a lot of weight gain kind of creeping on that. (laugh). I hadn't anticipated. So for about a month, um, this would've been. 2020.
Um, I did some intermittent fasting to, um, lose like the eight pounds I had gained over four months of COVID and stress. Right. Um, so yeah, Rachel says not healthfully. Healthily you did a fast, um, I found that it worked for my body. And so I'm trying it again. In the hopes that I, I just need a reset. Um, I just had a birthday. I turned 54 and I'm. I'm really curious about what being mindful. More mindful about what I'm putting into my body. Will will do so, um, I just started two days ago and so far, so.
Good, but I have, uh, 29 days left to go. The whole concept. Of, um, intermittent fasting and I, I, that is food. And. Beverage, um, anything um, outside of the window. Of 8:00 PM to noon. I'm not, I'm not eating. I do allow tea and coffee, anything that is. Um, you know, liquid that is not caloric. Um, I will allow. Myself. Um, not a lot. But what has taught me and what I immediately went back to. Was the appreciation for what we do put in our bodies and. How we treat, um, the experience of what we're either eating or.
Drinking. So again, this I'm using this example for food. But acutely. Um, it's very, it also reminds me of exactly. Some of the mindfulness practices that go along with, um, sober sobriety. Or making a sober choice. So. Being that, um, I am abstaining for 16 hours a day. So eight. PM to noon the following day. I'm not, you know, eating anything, but I do have, um, I'm drinking coffee at a coffee this morning. Um, what it has already done. Is kind of shifted the way that I, um, appreciate like that coffee.
I had this morning, I was like, oh, I don't know if I can make it to noon without food. Um, I had a huge appreciation for what I, the coffee that I did drink. And, um, that felt much more special than sometimes the ritual that I. Take for granted, um, of just having as much coffee or putting as much, you know, cream and other. Fun stuff in there as I possibly can. So that was just a, a mindfulness. Practice, um, that I experienced, um, just today with that. And also, um, I think what ends up happening.
As you're more deliberate in your choices because. You know, you have less options and a smaller timeframe. To consume. I have also noticed that a mindfulness of saying no to. Eating during those hours. Has caused me to create. Other activities. Um, how many of you watched Netflix or scroll on. Your phone or do something that associates directly with also eating. So I like, if I'm watching Netflix, I like, you know, have snacky foods nearby in a. Beverage. So last night I was like, I don't even want to do the Netflix thing.
And watch anything because I'm gonna miss that. You know, the eating, the drinking that goes along with it. So instead I read a book, I was like, gosh, you know, I should do this more often. And I just, I'm really excited to see what the rest of the month. Holds in terms of, you know, productivity and just mindfulness. In one area of my life that is starting to. Impact or spill over to others. Um, same with, with drinking alcohol. So being mindful about. Choices and preparing yourself. So like, I have to.
Make arrangements for when I'm having coffee or lunch dates or eating dinner that it has to be. Within those windows. So I'm very mindful. Um, similarly, if you were trying to abstain from alcohol, um, thinking about what it would take. To mindfully practice. Not drinking in a social setting or something. You're going into being very mindful. Of your environment, the people around you and setting yourself up for a success. And then noticing if you are making that positive choice to just abstain from happy hour, you know, an alcoholic beverage or whatever it is.
Really leaning into the mindfulness instead of thinking, oh, I'm feeling so deprived. I can't have. This really leaning. Into, you know, what is this experience? What does this hold for me? And it's maybe different if you haven't, um, been in certain social situations without an alcoholic. Beverage, but leaning into the mindfulness, which might include. Really, um, interesting conversations that feel more engaging. It might look like feeling better when you get home after that experience. You might be more productive, you will likely.
If, um, you're not drinking. Um, potentially have better sleep. So there's all these impacts that one simple. Mindful choice can lead to. And I'd be curious to hear if anyone, um, listening now or. Later, like what's, what's your mindfulness challenge. What area of your life can you do? One small mindful thing. That might spill over into other areas of your life. I'd love to hear it. Um, yeah, I'm gonna go open this bottle. Um, of Vino (laugh) non-alcoholic rose Dolce. I'll have to post. Later you guys, and just let you know how it was.
I've had this before, so I know it's great. But, um, just very, oh, oh, here we go. Oh my gosh, you know what? It was in my fridge and I think it was just too cold. There we go. (laugh) I'm scared. Scared my dog. But there it is. Okay. I'm gonna. Pour a little bit and then give you guys a, a cheers. Cheers. Um, just celebrating, being here, taking care of yourself. Working on your wellbeing. It's so important. And I hope all the cadre shares you listen to. With those quick checks, um, you know, anywhere from five to 10 minutes.
You get your little fix of. Happiness and connection and takeaway feeling inspired. Take away something feeling inspired. Oh. My goodness, you guys, this is so good. This is a, a wine from the Northern region of Italy. The couple who created it, she created it. Um, because she noticed during pregnancy, there was absolutely. Nothing for her to drink. Uh, one of my favorites. Favorites. Yeah. Rachel helps me to have other options. Not necessarily to just replace the behavior. Mm-hmm (affirmative) yep.
It's that's so true. It's like how many angles can you (laugh). Come at mindfulness with not only, you know, having some great options, but. How does that shift the behavior or change, change that. Thank you for sharing. Oh my gosh. All right, well, I'm gonna leave you with this. Um, cheers and, um, encouragement to find some great NA beverages. If that's your thing. And make, um, better sober choices. Um, look forward to seeing you next week until then have a great Tuesday. Bye-bye
