Luke Wendlandt is out of town this week, so I'm taking over for him for his Monday motivation. I always love waking up on a Monday morning, getting started, getting going with the week.
In every situation, there's no winner. It's always a matter of what feels best to you. I encourage you this week to listen to your heart over your mind. Make sure you're making a decision that you won't regret.
Hey, guys, welcome to Monday motivation. You know, I may not look like who you're used to. Luke Wendlandt is out of town this week, so I'm taking over for him for his Monday motivation. I always love waking up on a Monday morning, getting started, getting going with the week. I got my cup of coffee here, you know, last night, I kind of got my priorities in order. Hey, Risa, I got my priorities in order. Kind of figured out what I'm going to be doing for the week, what my schedule looks like, so.
I always love Mondays. Just because we're just hitting the ground running today, I wanted to talk about the topic of listening to your heart versus listening to your mind. And in every situation, there's no winner. There's no, there's no, like, one is better than the other. It's always a matter of what feels best to you. And I'm gonna talk about a story here in a second of an instance where I really listened to my heart to make a move. That was a big, big, big decision. And I listened to that over the logic in my mind and the overthinking and the why would you do this?
You know, I really think this is important topic in today's society of, you know, we're very much caught up in the thinking mindset. I think a lot of people are in the left brain and the very logical thinking, and I gotta think through every single idea before I execute, which is important, of course, you know, always, you know, taking that safety precaution and making sure you're listening to your brain instead of just, you know, blindly being guided by your heart. But there is a meet in the middle of the two, and I believe strongly that you need to listen to both.
And there are many other indicators of making a good decision throughout your week. So back when I was at my last job, I worked for a mergers and acquisitions software company. I was in a very good position. I really loved my coworkers, I loved the team, I loved the company. I loved my perks, my benefits, my salary. Everything was just. Was great. I was then approached by a friend and a former alumni from my college about this opportunity I just could not pass up. I just felt I could not pass up this opportunity.
And so kept meeting with this guy, meeting with this guy till eventually an offer was on the table. And it was like, can you do this? And I thought with my mind, like, I'm in a stable role, I have a stable paycheck. I I'm so happy here. I can keep doing what I'm doing. I could keep living life, and I could keep moving up the ladder. And I think in that moment, the clock was ticking, so I had very little time to be able to make this decision. So I called up a good friend of mine who basically told me to really, really dive deep in this situation.
Do you want to stay in those golden handcuffs, stay in a good, stable role, or do you want to come over here to this brand new opportunity, meet all these brand new people, work in a startup, grow more than you've ever grown before, or keep moving up this linear ladder? And both sounded like really good opportunities. Both were like, I was going back and forth. One day I was like, I'm doing it, and then the next I was like, I should stay. It's gonna be so much easier. So it was that, that mix of, like, the mind and the heart.
One day the mind was speaking, the next day the heart was speaking. And I remember having this conversation with her. Her name is Danielle Jokonen. She's actually a coach on Cadre, so you should connect with her if you're. If you're ever in a pickle like this. She said, dive deep on this. Really, really think about this and picture yourself a year from this moment in both situations, which is going to make you happier. And this is one of those things where your mind can't really feel that happiness.
It can understand and visualize where you're going to be in a year, but your heart is what tells you that you're going to be happy, and you can feel that. And so I ultimately ended up making that decision to listen to my heart because I knew that this was going to be something that was going to help me grow. It was going to help me meet new people, it was going to help me learn new things. And I never would have traded that first thing at that last company. I love that last company. I love my old coworkers.
But it was just time for me to move on to a new opportunity. And I listen to my heart in that moment, and I encourage you this week to listen to your mind and listen to your heart. Heart's over here. Heart. Make sure you're making a decision that you feel is absolutely right in both places. See if they can both align, because you won't regret it. You absolutely will not regret it. But I hope you guys have an amazing, amazing week. This is Monday motivation with Alec. If you guys like this, I'd be happy to hop on again and do another Monday motivation or something else throughout the week.
But I appreciate you all being here, and we'll talk soon. See you guys.
