Cleaning House on my Wedding Anniversary

JLJosh Leddy

A unique way I’m spending my anniversary with my wife is by purging things we don’t need. To create space for new energy, or simply creating space for the sake of space, it’s necessary to declutter. Plus, doing it with intention allows for a trip down memory lane to appreciate the items that are going to the wayside.

Okay. It's like reconnecting there for a second, throwing me for a loop. Uh, yeah, it's, uh, beautiful morning. I gotta I got a cat on the roof right there. There's actually two cats on the roof. But find the I'll show you the other one. When, uh, when you, when you hear. Pops up. They like to be roof kitties from time to time. I just finished my morning routine. Which consists of, uh, now I'm doing wake up. 30 pushups. Feed my kitties. Uh, jump in the cold plunge for three minutes. Do three laps.

Laps in the, in the grass behind me. Get some good grounding. 30 more pushups. And then, uh, just grab some. Coffee with collagen and creatine. And, uh, sit down and journal for about an hour. And is my favorite thing to do to start the day to just. You know, set the day with intentions. Intentions, um, recount what's happening in my life. And, uh, just kind of being able to. Just be as the last couple days have been filled with meetings. Meetings. All right. I gotta. I say hi, roof kitties. Yeah, they're pretty, pretty proud about themselves.

Sorry for the interruption there, but I mean, who doesn't like looking at. Cats sitting on a roof. Uh, so yeah, I had. A busy, a busy couple days. And, um, that's another just great reason to journal. Is to kind of just collect my thoughts cuz yesterday I was moving from one thing to the other Monday. I had a little bit more of a gap in between meetings, but, uh, yeah, lots of action. And today's special day for me. It's my nine year. Wedding anniversary with Melissa. So we got married. Uh, in 2017.

August 19th and have lived essentially a whole, you know, cycle of life nine years. Uh, as a married couple. Pretty cool. We got, we met 15 years ago. On the 4th of July at big island. So that was, uh, it's a cool place to, to say that we met at a, at a special time. Of the year, 4th of July, who doesn't like to. Honor 4th of July with, uh, with meeting the love of their life. So. Pretty special. And we're gonna, you know, we're gonna have a good day. We're gonna go. Borrow our friend's boat and go and have a little.

Meal, uh, somewhere on the lake. So that'll be fun. And we're also spending the today and kind of this week. Um, lightning the load. In our lives, we're teaming up with. Melissa's parents to do a garage sale at their house. So we're, uh, we're going through things that have just held space. In our home for a number of years. And we moved into our house in November of 2020, and there's still. Stuff in bins that we haven't pulled out. You know, a lot of glassware. Um, just hanging onto clothes. You know, for that right time to eventually.

Try to sell on a garage sale or to, to put on. You know, marketplace somewhere in some shape or. Form. And we've been holding onto this for. A while, you know, too busy with life to properly get rid of. So. Something. And now we are, we're doing that. Uh, and, you know, there can be. Uh, it can be tough to get rid of things. Uh, maybe it's really easy to get rid of stuff. Um, but today is, you know, it's kind of a good. Way to just I dunno, go through some memories. And get rid of stuff that. You know, no longer serves us.

Right. We've been doing that from. An identity standpoint with our lives. Moving on from the the routines in life that no longer serve us. To step into more of our authentic self. So it's only natural to. To do that with our home. And go through. The bins of history. And determine what's worth keeping, you know, and it's also a fun little practice to kind of just go through and share some of those. Memories right. And one of the tricks that all. I'll use is if I'm really having a tough time getting rid of something.

I'm gonna take a picture of it. And create an album of my phone of. Old stuff. And if I really feel like I. You know, I'm missing it. I can, I can look at a photo cuz I'm probably gonna get the same. Type of memory that, uh, that I would, if I have it in my possession, and maybe it's even a better memory cuz I'm not brushing it over being like, oh, I don't. Don't need to deal with that right now. So, that's kind of a little trick that I'm gonna utilize. To release. Some of the stuff that might be a little harder to.

Give away. So it's, uh, it's gonna be a fun little practice, you know, it can be stressful. You have a. You know, somewhat clean, organized house and. You pull out 10 bins and you start going through it, and then it's every. Everywhere. Right. (laugh) uh, I ran into. That issue. I got down the rabbit hole of all the ninja turtle stuff that I've had since. I was a kid. I have so many. Original ninja turtle things from 1988, when they all, when they. Action figures came out. Uh, that I, I started working with Chachi PT to figure out, Hey, is this stuff worth anything?

Turns out. Some of it is so I've spent. More time than I'd like to admit. Uh, analyzing my ninja turtle stuff and. Comparing it, uh, on eBay and. You know, I've deemed it's all too worthy to put in a garage sale. So. I've created another project for myself where I'll have to organize all. All my collector collectibles. Collectibles and, uh, you know, put it on eBay at some point in time. But it's been, it's been fun. It was a blast from the past to see. What, uh, helped shape my childhood. And that was definitely the teenage mutant ninja turtles.

(laugh). So I, I also stumbled across. My massive collection of goosebumps books and I have 16. Like first edition copies. So that was kind of fun to go through and realize, I remember I. I've pumped through a bunch of those books. When I, I got. Uh, chickenpox at a young age. And obviously stayed home from school and remember. Just blowing through those books. While sitting in the bathtub and. Uh, recovering from you know, chickenpox. So good memories. Fun to think about that. All those, all those, like the ninja turtles, the goosebumps stuff that brings me back to my childhood.

Where I, you know, grew up in a. House that I loved, uh, on a small little lake in Plymouth. Plymouth. So it was good to go through memory lane a little bit, but it's also gonna be. Very empowering to release. So. Uh, if you're ever feeling. You know, cluttered in life, like. Things are just too full. Take a stab at, uh, the closet. Take, uh, take a run through the garage. Go through those bins that you've been. Shuffling to the side. And, uh, ignoring for a period of time. And yeah, spend an hour or two going through it.

Maybe it'll evoke memories. Um, maybe it'll allow you to. Release something that you didn't know needed to be released. Released and make room for something new or just make room for space, right. There's no need to fill the space that you're trying to clear. With, uh, something that's just gonna be. You know, another item in the bin. So, um, use the opportunity to enhance the value of things that you have in your life. And appreciate that. So that's, uh, that's what we're gonna do today as we celebrate, uh, nine years.

So it'll be a fun way to. To just kind of reminisce and. And, and, and be with each other. So I, uh, hoped little that can resonate with you. And yeah. If there's some clutter in your house, declutter eight, get out of there. Clear some space and, uh, ring in new opportunities. So cheers. Cheers. And we will see you very soon. See you later cadre.
