  2. 5:58Chris Fortman: Happy Friday, y'all

Chris Fortman, Gary, Christy, Jean, everybody here. I hope you have a good Friday. Let me see if I can get to some lyrics of I can't dance. Happy Friday, y'all.

There's something about low, low long lead ins to songs. Huh? Slow long lead ins to songs. You recognize this song or this ban? They're Australian. Christy Larson. How are you, my friend? Ah, Chris Fortman. Dream big. We got a crew today. Finally, finally. 46 seconds later, the guitar drops. I'll stop right there. Oh, Jiminy crickets. 50 seconds of leading to song, only to stop it. Come on, jc. That's Genesis's genesize. Genesis song. I Can't Dance from the Way We Walk tour, which was what, mid-80s, late-80s?

C. if we've never shared time and space together before, thank you for the opportunity to spend some time with you right now. You can normally see me bright and early. That bright good morning voice. That bright good morning voice. Who's heard but never seen Harry Chapin. W O L D. But I'm popping in in the afternoon here to set you up for a weekend. And here's what I want to let you know. First of all, that I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad you're here. I know what I know and I care about you. But secondly, I want to let you know that regression is not okay.

Going backwards is not okay. Regression is actually amazing. Going backwards is actually amazing. You may be booing me or throwing your phone against the wall right now, but let me explain progression. Going where you want to go and the way you want to go there is awesome. Having everything fall apart and go backwards is awesome. Stagnant is scary. Think about it. We've been trained to think that anytime we slip backwards, it is the worst thing that can happen. So rather than going backwards, what do we do?

We hold on tooth and nail, white knuckle to not go backwards. And we choke life and we choke energy out of what we care about. Here's what happens in regression. Regression is where we challenge and fail and learn. Regression is where we find out that we are working harder than we can work in a sustainable way. So normally in our regression moments, we go, wow, I can't get out of bed today. I need to change something. Because if this is something that's really important to me that I want to have around for a really long time, I need to figure out a way, a different way.

If we don't let ourselves go backwards, we don't learn that. This is something I wrote. So rather than waxing too long, I want to share how this idea kind of fermented in my mind. So as I said, regression is not okay. It's absolutely Fabulous. It's okay to slow down. It's okay to take a break. It's okay to modify. It's okay to listen to your body. I disagree. It's amazing to slow down. Cheers to you for taking a break. Thank you for modifying and showing others how to do the same and a way to push yourself to listen to your body.

We're a lot better at kicking our butts and holding on than we are at letting go and realizing that maybe the way that we're doing the thing is not the right way to do the thing. And we learned that when we take a few steps back. We've created a world where it is awesome to push, kick, kill, crush, and constantly do more and merely okay to listen, reflect, soften, modify, and to consider doing less in doing so. We've created a world that is pretty bad at being flexible, versatile, open, and capable of doing anything when we can't do everything.

I'm going to say that line again. We've created a world that is pretty bad at being flexible, versatile, open, and capable of doing anything when we can't do everything. I'm going to stop right there. We created a world that if we cannot do everything, we attempt to do nothing. We don't slow down, we don't fail, we don't go backwards, we don't miss Mondays. All the things that we're told that are sexy. Punch, kick, kill. No matter what, just keep going. Be better. Every day is exactly why we're not.

What if today's the day where everything falls apart and you go backwards? You regress, you do not collect $200 and you do go to jail. Maybe sometimes it's a Monopoly reference, not a real life reference. I hope you don't go to jail. But if you do, guess what? There's life. There's life to be lived in the progressions and the regressions. Things get scary when we dig our head in the ground and we go stagnant. So no matter what, no matter where you are, no matter what's going on today, I hope you're well.

But if you're not, please acknowledge the unwellness. Please allow yourself to feel the feels and figure out what to do with it. Chris Fortman, Gary, Christy, Jean, everybody here. I hope you have a good Friday. Let me see if I can get to some lyrics of I can't dance. Nope, it's not gonna. Let me, let me see. I'll try guessing where we're at. Here we go. The only thing about me is the way that I walk I can, can't. I can't see. I'm just standing and selling everything. Happy Friday, y'. All. For me and my disco ball to you.
