Being single on a Friday night doesn’t have to mean feeling lonely. Let’s talk about how to actually enjoy your own company, make plans that feel good, and stop treating being single like something you need to fix.
Michelle O'Connell greets viewers, introduces her role as a dating coach, and states that she'll be talking about the experience of being single on Friday nights. This sets the tone and purpose of the video.
She explains how cultural messages create expectations to be out or with someone on Friday nights and acknowledges that many people feel depleted after the week. She frames why Friday nights can feel especially hard.
Michelle talks about the worry others will perceive single people as lonely and how social media can intensify that feeling. She encourages avoiding the 'scroller coaster' of comparing yourself to others online.
She outlines two kinds of Fridays—empowered stay-at-home nights and nights when you wish you were doing something—and advises recognizing your feeling and then choosing either to make staying in enjoyable or to take action and do something.
Michelle lists options like making plans with friends, taking yourself out, joining events, and planning ahead so you have an answer when asked about your Friday night. She emphasizes proactive choices to avoid panicking when invited.
She says you don't need to date on Fridays and suggests building activities into Saturday and Sunday so you aren't on the sofa all weekend. The goal is balancing rest with social connection across the weekend.
Michelle normalizes staying home, gives permission to avoid social media and enjoy simple comforts, and shares a personal example of making pizza and enjoying a quiet evening. This reinforces that staying in can be empowering.
She reiterates that quiet Fridays don't mean sad or behind, urges self-compassion, invites viewers to follow her on social, and asks them to comment about their Friday plans. She closes with encouragement and contact info.
Hello Cadre, happy Friday evening. It is 630 Friday night and my name is Michelle O'Connell. I am from Unstuck by Michelle. I'm a dating coach and I'm on tonight to talk about Friday nights. Friday nights and being single can hit a lot differently and We build these expectations in our brains sometimes of what we should be doing on Friday nights. And so I'm here to debunk some of that to help you if you struggle on Friday nights. And so this could be honestly, if you are single, if you're not single, Friday nights can just be hard.
So I think there's this cultural message that we get that we're supposed to be doing something on Friday night, right? Like it's the weekend, you're supposed to be on a date or going out or being with somebody. And the reality is a lot of people, not everyone has different work schedules, but a lot of people worked throughout the week and got a lot of stuff done. And I don't know about you, but Friday nights I am just depleted. Girls ready to go to bed. But I remember when I was single, like I did feel pressured to do things and it was really hard.
It was hard. And I'm here to talk about it. So I think too, another thing that I felt like when I was single is that people often thought I was lonely. Or maybe I maybe was just worried about people thinking I was lonely or feeling bad for me for not having plans on Friday night. And it didn't always feel good. So a couple things like I just here to remind you about is that it's okay to stay home on a Friday night. It's okay to stay home any night. Particularly though like Fridays with that expectation that we need to do things, it's okay to stay home.
And I think social media can be quite toxic if you're someone who is struggling. and someone who maybe wants to be doing all these things Friday night, social media can be really hard because you see all these other people doing things. And so I do recommend like not getting stuck in that scroller coaster. So there's two types of Friday nights, right? The Friday night we're like, I'm actually okay staying home and I feel empowered to stay home and I'm going to make Friday night my biatch and make a good dinner.
read, watch some Netflix, go to bed early, like that's, that like empowering Friday night, right? And then there's the Friday night where it's, I wish I was doing something, I should be out, I wish I was with someone, I feel quite lonely. Those are the ones we're here to talk about, and those are the ones that are harder to deal with, right? Because when you feel lonely, sometimes we think that the only solution is to be with people. And we can't just like wish upon people sometimes. Like sometimes like we just don't have anything to do.
So I want to remind you that feeling lonely is normal. Like it's a normal thing. We want connection and it's okay to feel normal, but it's okay to feel lonely. I don't want you to make that your not to highlight it. I don't want you to make that your, like, your night. Like, I'm lonely. I want you to kind of recognize that you feel lonely, recognize that I wish I had something to do, and then either make a choice, like stay home and feel empowered and make some decisions that feel good for you, or do something.
Right? You can always make plans, and that can be with friends, family, or you can go take yourself out to dinner. I know people get like the ick with that, but for many years on my birthday, I would go out to eat by myself and I felt good. I didn't have to talk to anybody. I don't really care what other people think about me, so I'm blessed in that way. And it just felt good to take myself out to dinner, get what I wanted to get. be on my own time, dress a little cute, and I liked it. There's also a lot of different events on social media that you can go to.
And so you're not stuck at home just because you don't have somebody specifically to spend time with, right? So you can stay home, feel empowered to stay home. You can do some self-care to set yourself up for Saturday, or you can just do something, right? Don't wait on someone else to live your life. If you know Fridays are hard for you, Try not to plan on Friday, right? Like make some plans earlier in the week for Friday. I know Fridays are hard for me. So what can I do to make my Fridays a little better?
Whether that's making plans, whether that's buying groceries so you can wine and dine yourself at home. But doing something proactively to make it so that you have a plan for Friday. And when people say, what are you doing tonight? You don't have to like stumble over your words or panic and you can say, I'm wining and dining myself at home tonight, I cannot wait. Right? Or, oh, I'm going to this event that I saw on meetup group. It looks really fun. Do you want to come? Right? So you have, when you plan ahead, that question when people ask, what are you doing?
You can have an answer and that feels good. So also, like the idea of people think they need to be going on a date on Friday night. Yeah, you don't have to do that. I never went on dates on Friday nights. Nope, I think I more often than not stayed home when I was single on Friday nights because girl was tired. With that being said, I also made sure to find something to do on Saturday and Sunday so that I wasn't home all weekend, right? Because if you're someone who does feel lonely, does feel isolated, has a harder time on weekend, it's easy to get stuck on your sofa.
So I want you to find something to do over the weekend. And that can be even going on a lovely walk. That can be going to the farmer's market. Maybe that's popping by a friend's house, stopping to see your grandma, going to a movie. Build something into your weekend so that you're not on your sofa all weekend. But with that being said, in the same breath, permission to stay on the sofa on Friday night. It's okay to stay home on Friday night. It's empowering to not give a F what other people think and just live your best life at home on Friday night.
Stay off social media on Friday night. Go to bed early on Friday night. Like there's so many reasons just to chill at home on Friday night. Like I'm excited after this you guys. Right now, honestly, I have my oven preheating because I'm about to make a pizza. On my pizza, I put ground beef, I put some Greek yogurt, I put some onions. It's like an experience having a pizza here. Like I'm excited to do that. And then you know what else I'm excited to do? Watch a show and go to bed early. Yep. It's a glory.
I love it. So I hope for you to do something tonight that makes you feel good and be okay with staying home on a Friday night. I repeat, be at home. Be okay with staying home on a Friday night. Quiet home Friday night doesn't mean sad. That doesn't mean desperate. That doesn't mean that you are behind. It means that you are a human being. So give yourself some grace. I was going to say dust off your shoulders. I said it anyways. And make some plans for the weekend, but stay at home, be okay with it.
And if you're totally not, then go treat yourself, get some ice cream. You have choices. You don't have to sulk and be sad. Feel empowered and live your life. That is all. I am Michelle O'Connell. You can follow me on Instagram and TikTok. at Unstuck by Michelle.
