Luke opens with a Monday greeting, names himself and his role at Cadre, and briefly discloses his struggles with generalized anxiety and using alcohol to cope, setting a personal tone for the message.
Luke brings up the Mike Tyson line 'everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face,' describes a long walking challenge with a friend, and begins reframing that sentiment to prompt the question, 'now what?'
Luke reframes the quote into a 'what did you expect?' mindset, using examples like walking across Minnesota, starting a company, and marriage to show why anticipating bumps helps manage disappointment and cultivate resilience.
Luke asks viewers to actively change their mindset by identifying areas where they expect perfect outcomes and instead prepare for unexpected results, suggesting those outcomes can lead to positive, life-changing growth.
Luke closes with encouragement for the week, expresses appreciation for the community and the new app and live streams, and signs off warmly.
Hello, Cadre. Hello, hello, hello. Happy Monday to you and yours. It's Monday motivation. This one's everybody has a plan till they get punched in the face. Again, my name is Luke Wentland. I've been at Cadre since day one. It is an honor and a privilege to be here. I'm also an individual that suffered with generalized anxiety disorder and panic attacks, and then ultimately I would use alcohol to cope with it to make me feel better. during that stretch. So again, my name is Luke. It is the best to be here.
Everybody has a plan to get punched in the face. What does that mean? Like why is that important? Why is that an important share? Well, I think it's an important share because like we all have the best intentions and we think things are going to go a certain way and we might have, you know, this ability to kind of see how it's going to roll and then all of a sudden things change. And then I always say, now what? Right? And so my friend Jason Lennox and I have been on this big walk for a while. He's continued to go every single day.
I have not. I have an amazing wife and kids, and it's important to be able to do both and do both well in summers. But just wanted to share that we were talking about blisters on your feet. We were talking about, again, now we've walked in Minnesota, Stillwater, all the way up to Grand Marais. It's a long, stretch. Think of like over 3 1/2 weeks, right? So it's been a long time. And you get blisters, things don't go well. You have moments in time where maybe your emotions get the best of you, run out of water, pop a tire.
There's just a variety of different things. So you always say, everybody, Michael Tyson made it famous. everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face. Well, the reality is I like to change that a little bit. And my change is, what did you expect? Meaning, if you're going to go walk around the state of Minnesota, there's fires, there's forest fires going on, you have blisters all over your body, things don't go well, and I would say, what did you expect? If you're starting a company, same or similar vein, right?
If you're starting a company and you are starting and you're one month in, two months in, three months in, and things aren't going the way you expected them to, well, guess what? did you expect? Do you think they were just going to go off great? Think it was going to be perfect? Obviously, it's not. If you get married and you're going to be with somebody for the rest of your life, Odds are it's not going to be perfect every minute of the time. You are in a relationship, you're in a marriage, you're in two communicable human beings to try to make everything work perfectly.
Probably, you know, again, what did you expect? There's going to be bumps along the road. It's life. So again, I just want to take this concept of planning for the best, but expect the unexpected. You can always plan for the best, but the unexpected is going to happen. And what's more is this. If you can get to your brain to get to the point of like, I do expect things not to go well. I do expect, like you're signing up for a marathon, you're running 26 miles, guess what? Probably gonna hurt. you sign up to walk around the state of Minnesota, things probably aren't gonna go well.
There's gonna be some things you're gonna have to fight through, rustle through, tussle through its life. Starting a company, probably not gonna go well. If you think it's gonna be peaches and cream, like it's just not. So what I'm really trying to express to this cadre sphere is like, I believe getting your brain wrapped around this concept that things will go, your life will go expectedly unwell before it goes expectedly well. Instead of the opposite, instead of this entitled perspective of a lot of individuals in our world, how about if we show up completely the opposite of just saying like, I expect it not to go well.
I expect things to happen. I expect that no matter how prepared I am, that other things will come up. I really think we got to change our mindset there. That's my challenge to you all. Can you change your mindset to have like, what did I expect mentality? You go on a trip, you're gone for seven days, and you're traveling three different places, and your airfare jumping from one to one to one and whatever. Like, well, odds are it's probably not going to go perfect. So what did you expect? If it does go perfect, amazing.
But if it doesn't, Instead of getting so frustrated to say, this is great, and I'm going to learn so much from it. So I encourage you to take a step back today, and I want you to think about something that you feel like you have expected results to, that you have very expected results to, and want to change your mindset to say, these unexpected results and these unintended consequences potentially may just change my life. They may change my life for the better, even though that it feels like it's not going well right now.
That's my challenge to all. Have an amazing week. Live for this community. I love being here. Thank you all. Take care. And with that, I hope you're all loving the new app. I hope you're enjoying the live streams. Hopefully they're going off without a hitch here. It's my favorite thing in the world to be a part of this community. I live for it. Take care, everybody.
