Hustling is the corporate American way, but does it have to be? I’ll share what changed when I noticed I was burning out
Hey, Hey, cadre. Happy Friday, happy Friday. Um, it is a glorious. What is it? Here we go. Oh. Start with a song. I haven't heard this song in years. I just want you to know, Hey, Christie. I just cash kitchen man. I don't know, it just came to my head. So I was like, yeah, we're gonna, we're gonna, uh, pull a JC and open up with, with some music. So. Yeah. Hey Chris. I know, I love that song too. (laugh). How are we feeling today? Either a number, an emotion. An event, um, if there's anything that you wanna share, I'd love to know where you're at so we can.
We can dive into it. We're we're we're talking hustle today. And. This one is a big one for me. Because I used to live in like survival mode all the time. (laugh). And part of survival, survival mode for me was. Um, going like, I, I couldn't sit still. Um, I used to be called twitchy when I was in yoga, like cuz I had constantly just. Like itch or move or like, move, you know, um, and so I'm curious. If you're, um, if you've, if you are familiar with what living in survival mode looks like. Because sometimes we don't know what it feels like or what it looks like until we're out of it.
And that was a really really, um, tumultuous path to get out of. Uh, and I worked with a lot of, lot of wonderful mentors therapists people. And to, to really work my way out of that, that hustle and grind, because I. Was constantly trying to prove my worth. To like to myself. To my parents, to like, to my family. Um, and it got really old. It was really tiring. So, um, I, I don't regret it, but if any of you are Fe have ever felt where you're just no matter what you do, it's not. Enough or controversially.
Um, you're working in corporate America. And you just feel burnt out. This, this is, this is gonna be for you. Um, cuz I currently work in corporate America. I have pretty much. My whole adult life. Um, even when I was a teenager, I had corporate jobs. And so, uh, like entry level of like nothing important jobs, but. Um, unfortunately, what I'm gonna tell you, you're not gonna like, but it's part of life. Hustle is required in some seasons of life. Bummer. We can't just you know, sit like and I'm not saying it has to.
But if you, especially right now in like a competitive job market, like you kind of have. To grind a little bit. You kind of have to show. That you are willing to be somebody to do the work. You have to kind of step up to the. Occasion or do these things that you may not want to do. In order to get to where you want to be. And that could be building your own business as well. There's just certain parts of it. You, you. Have to do accounting (laugh) you have to do marketing the. There's just certain things we have to do.
To take care of ourselves, right? If you're a parent. You gotta do laundry, man. There's just no way to not get the, the, get the laundry. Done and or the yard work like there are. Certain things and certain seasons of life that require us to kind of work a little bit more. In other seasons, we can rest a little bit. So. That was my first takeaway today. Uh, in, in my world of, of how I've learned growing from being. So feeling so inadequate to constantly have to hustle. To realizing now as a. Secure adult that sometimes it's just part of, part of the job.
So understand that there are certain projects in certain seasons that do require you. To hustle, but what's important is how you work through it. And that leads me to number two, which is. Can you counteract this hustle? With, with a little happiness and harmony. Right. Um, we're gonna have to do it. We have to work. So we might as well try to have. Fun in the process. And. Uh, it, it takes some practice, but. Try to try and make it fun. Listen to music when you're doing. Admin stuff for chores.
I'll often try to do meditative breathing when I'm doing. Laundry or whatever, so that. I'm getting some nervous system benefits and calm and rejuvenation in my. System while I'm having to do certain things that we just have to do. Like it's never been. More apparent than ever that there's just, there's not enough time for us to do all the things that we have to do and want to do. So priming our body. To be able to show up when we have to. Is is, is, is critical. And that's why. Restorative work harmony.
Relaxation is, is, is really gonna help us for, for these particular season. Seasons third is learn when it's not worth it. I had to learn the hard way of like, burning out and then either. I didn't get the promotion. Or I didn't get the offer. Or the house I wanted. Wasn't ready. Uh, whatever it is, you know, certain. Trivial things now. Um, but sometimes it's just not worth it. Sometimes it's okay to be like, you know, I don't have the capacity to take on that project. So, uh, and don't even say, sorry.
Um, I, I hope you find someone else. So there, and this is all things that I'm still learning and growing through myself. Because I am a, a, a driver. I, I, I, in entre, entrepreneur. I have these like things in my blood. Um, I have ambition. And, um, and I, I like to build things and rejuvenate and. All sorts of things. So it's okay. If, if you have that in, ya. Um, we just, I, I balance it regularly. Like every Friday night I go to yin yoga. That is what I do to unwind from. The stressful work week.
And just, so what, what are you gonna do? Today or this week, or this month. To rejuvenate yourself. To relax a little more. To exhale big. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear. 'em. Mine are always walking in nature. Yoga listening to like a meditative. Chat or popping on a cadre. Um, there there's I'll even go lay on the grass with my dog in our blanket. Like I get real weird with it. (laugh). But I just want you to know that. And this is one of my favorite quotes of all time is. When you are relaxed, you are not in resistance.
You are in acceptance of life. You are open to life. So you could also rephrase it and say, relaxation is the antidote to resistance. So, what are you gonna do to relax? What are you gonna do to restore? What are you gonna do to revive and renew yourself in this busy, stressful month? I mean, there are graduation parties. I got, I got, we have a wedding and a graduation party. This (laugh). This weekend alone on top of other commitments that we had. And so it's like back to back. Days, um, all, all your weekends are taken up.
Uh, so this is start this now build our foundation. Do some deep breathing when you're doing chores, whatever it is like. And how, let me know how it goes. That's. That's that's what, what we can fit in is, is perfect. And if, even if it's just one. Minute it's it's crucial. Christie going out on the boat and kayaking. Hell. Yeah. I love that. Um, that is I'm. So. Jealous cuz I love to kayak and, and being on the boat is, is really fun and I'm grateful. To have friends. So Christy. Yeah. If you wanna be friends (laugh) (laugh).
I'm just kidding. Um, but yeah, being on water and in nature is. Always like my favorite thing to do, to like rejuvenate my soul and just like. Pro and look at the sky and be like, gosh, there's so much more out there. Like life is so much bigger. Than anything that I could imagine. Let's bring it down a notch, you know? Um, let let's just calm down, right? Let's calm down. Um, cuz when we're calm, we're clear. We make better decisions. We have better conversations. Everything's better. So hope you have a good, uh, rest of your day and your weekend.
Remember? Number one hustle's not required or hustle is required in certain seasons. Seasons and projects. So work with that energy. And counteract it with re rest and restoration to harmonize that those go-go periods. Periods and then learn when it's not worth it. Feel free to say no, can't do it. Peace. Uh, not for me today, you know? So be well drink a lot of water, spread kindness. I hope you enjoy your weekend. As well, and, uh, we'll tune in. Uh, next week as, um,
